From candidacy to coronation, we strive to put our youth on a path to success. We endeavor not only to help our candidates to succeed in the program, but to teach them life skills that they can use for years to come in their professional and personal lives.

Meet our current team!

Amber Yang is a grade 10 student who loves diplomacy and music and wishes to pursue a career in law as either a corporate lawyer or a law professor while also freelancing as a musician; she can be seen working towards this goal daily, attending Model UN conferences and finicking with instruments at home! Amber really enjoys getting to meet new people from all walks of life and is fascinated by all the interesting stories they tell. Moving to White Rock during the Covid-19 quarantine period in 2020, Amber has never experienced what may be considered “normal” in the city, so when she was introduced to the White Rock Youth Ambassadors, she jumped at the opportunity to learn more about her own city and to help it recover from the pandemic. Over the past year, Amber has made many valuable friends and memories while volunteering in the city and she hopes to continue doing so in the next year. All the amazing seafood in White Rock has kept Amber’s taste buds very busy, and she is absolutely elated every Spring to see the city engulfed in a blanket of baby-pink cherry blossoms!

Andrea Luo is a dedicated and hardworking grade 11 French immersion student at Earl Marriott Secondary. She is passionate about learning new cultures and languages, which is why she hopes to use these skills at UBC to pursue a degree in Masters of Arts to become a French immersion teacher since she likes to help others. Among the picturesque scenery and the whiffs of delicious food, she finds peace as she strolls along the Oceanside promenade with her family and friends. Andrea is also very motivated by environmentalism which leads her to volunteer once a month at beach clean-ups. This also demonstrates her commitment to being an active citizen of her community. Andrea also has many pastimes such as dancing and piano. Having been part of her life since she was five years old, she enjoys it so much because it allows her to challenge and learn ways to creatively express her emotions. Andrea is excited to be part of the White Rock Youth Ambassadors after seeing how important it was for her older sister’s personal growth and development. She is honoured to be a candidate in representing the City of White Rock and becoming a role model for youth in the community.

Aria Wang is a grade 9 student who loves math, psychology, and economics, and is all about making a positive impact on society. She's a big fan of playing badminton, volleyball, and hanging out with friends at bubble tea shops. At school, she's part of several clubs and rocks subjects like science, math, and Spanish. When she's not studying, you'll find her on the badminton court, attending tournaments, taking care of wild animals, or learning about investments.

In the future, Aria dreams of a career in psychology and economics. That's why she joined the White Rock Youth Ambassadors - to learn more about her community, spread warmth around, and work on her public speaking skills. She's super stoked to be involved in the community with other ambassadors, learn some awesome public speaking skills, and meet lots of new people! Aria can't wait for the exciting adventures ahead with the White Rock Youth Ambassadors!

Eunsoo Oh is a Grade 11 student who moved to White Rock in 2017. Although she moved around a few times, White Rock is where she feels most at home. She found that White Rock encompasses a friendly and welcoming atmosphere with a small-town feel with vibrant arts and culture. Eunsoo is a competitive swimmer, competing at multiple swim meets across Canada, and even internationally. In her free time, she loves to read, play music, and also teach and coach others.

She joined the White Rock Youth Ambassadors to be even more involved with her community and to meet people who share similar interests. Knowing that this program also provides an opportunity to explore new interests and passions, Eunsoo looks forward to gaining new skills and valuable experiences. Eunsoo is excited about her time in the White Rock Youth Ambassadors and is determined to make valuable contributions towards enhancing the community’s wellbeing.

Arthur Li, a tenth-grade student with a diverse educational background having studied in China, the UK, and recently relocated to White Rock, Canada, is known for his passion for debate and active participation in various debate-related contests. Alongside his interest in engineering and business, Arthur aspires to become an engineer or a businessman in the future.

In his leisure time, Arthur indulges in sports such as go-karting, golfing, tennis, and basketball. Motivated by a desire to learn more about the remarkable city of White Rock and make a positive impact on the community, Arthur has joined the White Rock Youth Ambassadors. He is particularly excited about the opportunity to meet new people and contribute to the community through this program. Arthur holds a deep appreciation for the breathtaking coastline that White Rock is renowned for, with its extraordinary beaches. He eagerly anticipates the time he will spend with the White Rock Youth Ambassadors, as he looks forward to making meaningful contributions to the community.

White Rock Youth Ambassador Rheanna Zhu is a Grade 12 student at Elgin Park Secondary during the 2022-2023 school year. She is passionate about issues like social equality and mental health awareness for adolescents. This fall, she will study Commerce at the University of Toronto and work towards becoming a business lawyer. Rheanna currently enjoys working with children in after school development programs, where she hopes to create a comfortable and accepting learning environment for all. Her favorite activities include learning new languages, interior design and camping during the summer. She hopes to one day travel the world while exploring natural landscapes.

Sarah Yu is a grade 10 student in Elgin Park Secondary who is passionate about astrophysics, public speaking, as well as using all the time she can outside of school to make a positive impact on the community. Sarah has spent most of her educational career in White Rock, and she deeply fell in love with the natural geographical features of the city. She would never turn down a walk at the beaches or through the forest trails any afternoon. When she has spare time, she loves to sketch photos of her friends and family. To her, there is no better way of encapsulating memories than to draw them out by hand. Having joined the White Rock Youth Ambassadors, she hopes to use her skills to help out with events around the city, while getting to know White Rock as a city better and meet more people. Sarah feels that the highly demanding nature of the program (extensive volunteering, speeches, essay-writing) will push her out of her comfort zone and allow her to grow in many aspects that will be of great benefit in life.

John Meleppuram is a grade 11 student at Semiahmoo Secondary and is pursuing a career in finance and accounting. He is always looking for opportunities to learn and grow.

Joanne Cai is currently a grade 11 IB student at Semiahmoo Secondary. She is a well-rounded person with many interests. In order to contribute to her community and school, she is involved in the Semiahmoo Student Council and WRYA. In her spare time, piano and table tennis are her favourite activities. Joanne has achieved RCM piano performance ARCT level and is one of the Team BC’s table tennis players. Her favourite flavour is matcha and she is excited to connect with her community.
