Bunches of Lunches began with a vision.
Bunches of Lunches started out as a sign-up page on wrya.ca as an effort to bring lunches to seniors in our community during COVID. Our first round of deliveries had such an overwhelming response that the program ran for 2 years during the pandemic.
We hoped our one act of kindness would spark more within our community. We connected with seniors 65+ in the White Rock/South Surrey area and delivered a chef-prepared lunch for free. These lunches are delivered by volunteers. (of course, while adhering to all COVID-19 protocols.)
The volunteers are White Rock Youth Ambassadors. White Rock Youth Ambassadors have been a meaningful institution in White Rock since 1952. This program is a contemporary self-development program for teens. It has had a long-lasting effect on local youth and provides training for candidates to represent White Rock across the province.
So, what’s the catch you might ask? The answer is there isn’t one. It’s simply an act of kindness with no strings. Our only wish was to support our local seniors in a time of need. So we partnered with Backpack Buddies, a non-profit whose mission is to fill the weekend hunger gap by providing B.C. kids with meals to last a whole weekend.
Youth helping seniors helping youth; the perfect circle of kindness.
